Liz Nielsen is an experimental photographer working in the traditional analog color darkroom. She uses handmade negatives, layering techniques, and a variety of light sources. Each of her images is unique and cannot be duplicated. Her current work is themed around mirrored landscapes and embodies both representation and abstraction. Liz has had recent solo exhibitions in New York, London, Budapest, and Paris. Her work has been reviewed in the New Yorker, the London Financial Times, LensCulture, Vogue UK, FOAM magazine, and most recently in the Guardian.
What was your latest book discovery? What are your favorite books of all time?
Right now I'm reading How to Change Your Mind by Michael Pollan, but I just read Manahattan Beach by Jennifer Egan which was awesome. And fave books of all time....sheesh. I'm just going to present books that I've read lately and liked a lot. I loved reading the Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, Just Kids by Patti Smith, Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed, Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, The Outliers by Malcome Gladwell, Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman, Men Explain Things to Me by Rebecca Solnit, American Kingpin by Nick Bilton, Artemis by Andy Weir, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, and Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay, and I'll be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara.

Total darkness and also any kind of light, anything transparent, scissors, utility blades, photo darkroom paper (my favorite is FujiFilm FujiFlex), and also I document my analog work with a digital camera, then Photoshop, and then artwork archive.
