What was your latest book discovery? What are your favorite books of all time?
I love Noughts and Crosses, just as it was very revolutionary as a novel growing up, it tackled race and class and it was just so different to see those themes in a young persons novel.
Most visited blogs, websites?
Defo instagram, I looove tumblr for aesthetic inspiration for cover art or visuals. It’s also so calming to create a page that is everything that you find beautiful that you can always go back and reference.
What apps do you use the most and why?
Instagram for sure, if it wasn’t for Instagram I wouldn’t have made the connections I have, from posting clips of my music and having other artists connect with me, by gaining support, linking with photographers, graphic designers or anyone that can basically make out your vision , I think you know who you’re going to work well with just based on how someone’s Instagram is laid out, how they presented themselves, I see is almost a creative CV
Whats currently on your playlist?
What records would you recommend to hear?
My new single when it comes out! It’s such a new vibe but it’s gonna be a seasonless tune for sure!! Watch out for that
Fresh movie finds? What films do you think everybody should watch?
Such a hard one! I have too many, in terms of one day what I want to make, I love gritty British film, one that always sticks in my mind is Kidulthood. It was one of the first films of its kind that focused on Youth in London mood areas that film hasn’t really focused on before, including young some non. professional actors of ethnic minorities or working class backgrounds in a school that was in rough area and how everyone was effected.
Although it may not of been completely accurate, and there may be themes that are problematic, I feel like it was a stepping stone for things like Top Boy now, and inspires something that I definitely want to create in the future , something honest and real focusing on youth London mood but love, giving a voice to People.
Which artists working today do you admire most?
There is so many! I feel like women are really fighting there corner to be valued in the industry and the work that is being created is amazing. I really admire Young M.A. as a women of colour coming up in the rap scene she’s so talented and different, koffee is also like a breathe of fresh air. Mahalia has an amazing unique voice also , I’m loving seeing women of colour doing there thing and shining !!
What are some of your tv top tips right now?
I love crime dramas! And documentaries, but I always end up scaring myself when I watch too many! There is a really good website called Documentary Heaven which is amazing for finding so many different types of documentaries and there is literally like 20 categories!!
Who are you following?
I’ve really got into body positivity recently and have started following some amazing accounts. @Sonnyturner is great and @tabriamajors. By following different types of women different types of bodies it starts to change the way your Instagram looks and comes more like the world outside it, rather than this idealistic one shaped body that everyone should supposedly have.
What tools do you use in your work?
I use my piano first, to get the melodies I need. I love just sitting at it all day. Sometimes I don’t use the songs for years after that when they’re in on the piano for some reason that we stay in my head.I also use Voice notes on my phone it’s really good for passing song ideas or getting the lyrics down very quickly.
What magazines / newspapers do you read regularly?
I read the metro when it’s there but I find the news not to my liking, perhaps because it’s london focused. I find Twitter really good for actually finding out about news because it’s so instant and so many people share so many stories that are happening right right now across the whole globe, it’s also more non bias as you see people’s home videos of the news and eye witness statements first hand, which I think is really important.
What are your favorite gadgets?
My favourite products have to be my hair oil, my lip gloss and my jewellery. All these things make me feel visible and myself. Jewellery is like my make up, I feel so plain without it!
